How to Find the Perfect Planner for You

If you’re a self-proclaimed “planner girl,” chances are you’ve gone through more than your fair share of planners in an attempt to find one that perfectly suits your needs. And while there’s nothing wrong with trying out different planner styles, it can be frustrating (and expensive!) to continuously buy new planners only to find that they don’t quite fit your needs. So how do you find the perfect planner for you? Let’s find out now!

1. What’s Your Budget?

If you’re looking for a high-end planner with all the bells and whistles, you’re probably going to have to shell out some serious cash. On the other hand, if you’re working with a more limited budget, there are still plenty of options available that won’t break the bank.

2. How Much Space Do You Need?

Are you a big fan of using stickers and washi tape in your planner? Do you like to make detailed lists or write out long to-do items? If so, you’ll need a planner with plenty of writing space. Alternatively, if you prefer to keep things on the simpler side, a smaller planner with less writing space might be a better fit for you.

3. What Features Are Important to You?

Do you want a planner with tabs and dividers? A built-in pen loop? A pocket for storing loose papers? An elastic closure? Figure out which features are must-haves for you and use that as a starting point for your search.

4. Do You Prefer Simplicity or Decoration?

Some people prefer their planners to be simple and straightforward, while others like to personalize and decorate their planners to make them unique. There’s no right or wrong answer here—it simply comes down to personal preference.

5. What Time Frame Are You Looking For?

Are you interested in a yearly planner so that you can plan ahead for big events happening down the road? Or are you more interested in a monthly or weekly planner so that you can focus on short-term goals? Again, there’s no right or wrong answer—it all depends on what works better for YOU.

6. Do You Want an Undated or Dated Planner?

If having pre-printed dates in your planner is important to you, then obviously a dated planner is going to be the better option. However, if having pre-printed dates isn’t a deal-breaker for you, then an undated planner gives you the flexibility to start using it at any time—no need to wait until January 1st! Undated planners also tend to be slightly cheaper than their dated counterparts since they can be used year after year without needing to be replaced.

7. Where Will You Be Using Your Planner?

Are you looking for a portable option that can easily fit into your purse or backpack? Or are you okay with a larger size that might be less convenient to carry around with you everywhere but offers more writing space? Consider how and where you’ll be using your planner when making your decision.

8. Are There Certain Colors or Patterns That Appeal to You?

Let’s face it—part of the fun of being a “planner girl” is getting to play around with pretty paper products! If there are certain colors or patterns that appeal to you, try searching for planners that come in those colors/patterns. Not only will this make your planning process more enjoyable, but it’ll also help motivate and inspire YOU every time you open up your planner!
