Okay! So you spend the entire week dragging yourself on, from work to home, family, kids, and other obligations. And here comes the weekend. But it’s filled with other check-marks – the birthday party, the home improvement plans, and the errands.
And things go on and on.
And for us moms, the problem is worse. Whether you work at home or outside the house, motherhood is a full-time job that doesn’t give you any off days.
Yes, no off days on weekends, vacations, and even when you are sick.
So how to spend your weekend such that you enter the week ahead feeling refreshed rather than being more exhausted than ever and are just playing catch-up until you hit the next weekend and then the next…
Here is my verdict on this problem.
Declare your Sundays to be official self-care Sundays. Remember, “self-care is not selfish; it is absolutely necessary.” So let your Sundays give you some juice to get started on your week with a bang.

Let’s Get Started On Your Self-Care Sunday Regime
#1. Getting Proper Sleep Is Vital For Your Self-Care Sunday
Do I need to emphasize the importance of sleep? If you are not getting proper sleep, you are not on the right track. So do yourself a favor and get proper sleep. If you have young children, you might always feel sleep-deprived, but that’s just a stage, and it shall pass soon. Regardless, make sleep a priority and get proper sleep, at least on Sundays. And everything else can wait! If you are still finding it difficult to go into snooze land, why not try wearing a sleep mask?
#2. Don’t Rush Your Morning Wakeup!
The buzzing alarm, the stress of getting ready for work, packing lunches, and getting out of the house on time.
I hate rushed mornings! And I hate them even more on a Sunday.
Self-care Sunday is all about giving a relaxed start to your day. Skip the alarm, and give a slow start to your day. Lie in bed for no reason. Take a deep breath and relax. If you can’t relax because you are constantly stressed, why not pamper yourself with a relaxing gift to get into a deep relaxation mode?
#3. Spend Some Alone-Time
Spend some time alone. While everyone craves self-time, it’s something that moms need the most. I may sound like an introvert but spending some time alone is vital for your mental health. It could be you doing your favorite activity or simply not doing anything. Alone-time can recharge you and help you give a new outlook to your everyday life. Indeed, why not gift yourself a precious ME time gift?
#4. Move Around
If you don’t get time for regular workout sessions throughout the week, self-care Sunday is when you can move your body a bit. You may go for a sweaty HIIT workout or opt for gentle yoga moves. Give your body a good stretch by trying some mobility exercises or dance it out if you prefer. The bigger idea is to get your body moving.
#5. Spend Some Time in Nature During Your Self-Care Sunday Time
You may already know this, but spending time in nature can do wonders. If you are ready for an outdoor adventure, go for it. But if you are looking for a more at-home solution, simply open your windows and door and let fresh air come in. Enjoy the sunlight as you breathe deeply in the fresh air right from your balcony or window.
#6. Hide Away Behind a Book
What could be a better self-care Sunday idea than this one? Curl up on your couch with your favorite book and a cup of coffee and let the magic of fantasy transport you to another world. As you enjoy the escape from reality, expect a few interruptions here and there. Well, that’s the reality of motherhood.
#7. Write It Out
Don’t know how to express your feelings? Write it out as part of this self-care Sunday ideas list. Writing can have a great therapeutic effect. You seem to get rid of thoughts that were distracting you. As you begin writing, your mind tunnels your thoughts in the right direction, leaving you more organized and more aware of your physical and mental state.
#8. Write a Letter to Your Future Self
And if you have just picked up a pen and want to write but are not sure what to write about, write a letter to your future self. It could be a letter to yourself five years down on the line or maybe a few months into the future. But let yourself know how you feel about “her.” Tell her that you are proud of what she has done so far and what more do you expect of her.
#9. You Can Reverse the Order as Well
You may go in the reverse order if you choose. Write a letter to your younger self. Go back to the past and change the things you don’t like. You don’t have to be too hard on yourself. Forgive “her” and reiterate that everything is going to be all right!
Don’t forget to send “her” some love.
#10. Catch up with Loved Ones During Your Self-Care Sunday Session
Self-care Sundays don’t just have to be about alone time. You need to catch up with people you love and the company you enjoy, for moms who always crave self-time, what could be a better company than the kids. Catch up with your children. Do things you don’t do during the weekend. After all, it’s a fun day.
Don’t forget to catch up with your other loved ones. Give a call to your siblings or neighbors and find out what they are up to.
#11. Plan the Week Ahead
I love to plan ahead in my pretty planners as it gives structure to my week ahead. Make a proactive plan for the coming week and get more in control of the situation.
#12. Do Something Creative
What did you like doing when you were a kid? Coloring? Painting? Poetry? Gardening? Revive your old hobbies and get creative. Do things you don’t otherwise get time for and see how your skills improve over time! So does your physical and mental well-being.
#13. Clean Out An Area Of Your House
What could be more productive over the weekend than a proper clean-out of your house? Cleaning can also have a therapeutic effect on your well-being. Choose an area of your house that needs cleaning but make sure you stick to a small, manageable area. Remember, you are doing as part of your self-care Sunday regime, and you don’t have to burn yourself out.
#14. Try Something New
Watch a new movie while eating some yummy snacks, listen to a new artist, order food from a new restaurant, or watch something completely different on Youtube. Experimentation is always good for you!
#15. Practice Some Stillness During Your Self-Care Sunday Regime
This one is the toughest amidst the hustle-bustle of the day; it’s important that you take out a few moments and stop doing everything. Meditate for a few minutes and see the phenomenal impact it has on your sense of mental peace. With regular practice, you can enjoy the greater benefits of practicing some stillness on a busy day.
#16. Take a Nap
We are halfway through and right in the middle of the list of self-care Sunday ideas; this one is my favorite. Do you need any reasons for that? Sleep is integral, and moms need it the most – take a nap! It is that simple.
#17. Aim for Digital Detox
Are you glued to the screen all day? Do you spend your nights scrolling down your phone? Well, we are all in the same boat. So why not aim for a digital detox on your self-care Sunday. Give yourself a break from all the digital gadgets around you. Switch off your television and your cellphone. Don’t turn on your laptop or your tablet, and you are good to go. When you give yourself a break from the digitalized world that seems so natural to you, you will learn to enjoy the beauty of those around you. Stay mindful and enjoy the breeze, my friend.
#18. Eat Something Healthy and Delicious
Ahh, it’s Sunday, and it’s self-care Sunday, so why not eat something delicious. No, you don’t have to overload your stomach and later regret your food choices. Go for a healthy and delicious meal. Be mindful of what you are eating, and when you do this on a Sunday, you are likely to make healthier food choices throughout the week.
And as you pick up your favorite healthy food, make sure you enjoy every bit of it. Think of it as a massage. Experience it; let it stay and overtake your senses. That’s the best part of eating the healthy way.
#19. Cook or Bake Your Favorite Delicacy
Indeed you should eat healthily and make healthy lifestyle choices, but well, it’s Sunday, and there’s a little room for enjoying your favorite delicacy. You don’t have to bake a red velvet cake and eat it all by yourself, but a little mug cake would do. So why not try it?
#20. Leave a Few Blanks For Your Self-Care Sunday Sessions
You don’t always have to plan your Sundays. Leave a few blanks in your schedule so you can savor every moment of your self-care Sunday. Skip the birthday party, lunch plan with friends, and leave some room in your schedule for spontaneity and, most importantly, a little breathing space!
#21. Pamper Yourself with Proper Skin Care Routine
Now this is one of the ideas that reflect “self-care” in its purest form. Don’t rush over washing your face with soap as you do every day. Instead, pamper yourself with a proper skincare routine. Get some deep cleansing of your skin. Exfoliate your skin gently, put on your favorite face mask and end the regime by slathering some refreshing moisturizer. Enjoy the pleasure of taking care of your skin. It truly pays off.
#22. Facial Masks
Are you one of those moms who hardly get time for skincare? The result is dull-looking skin and a less vibrant you. Change the situation and slap on a facial mask, and get into a facial cleansing skin regime. But what does that mean?
It’s as simple as putting on your favorite face mask twice a week, once on a Wednesday and next over the weekend. If you have fine lines or your skin feels dry and rough, add this one to your self-care Sunday routine and leave your skin hydrated and restored.
#23. Show Your Hair Some Love
As you take care of the skin, let’s not forget the hair. Show some love to your tresses and pamper yourself with hot oil massage or deep conditioning. Invest in a good quality hair mask that can leave your hair fully nourished. If you have got curly hair, put in a little time and effort to maintain the natural curls and the awesome look they bring.
Remember, hair care is just as important as skincare. Make your hair care regime a top priority over the weekend.
#24. Make Your Self-Care Sunday Session a Spa Day
If it works for you, schedule a relaxing massage at your favorite spa. But if you want to try it at home, get a massage therapist to visit you right where you are, and enjoy a relaxing day at home! If you want to save some money, get a DIY spa kit!
#25. Give Yourself a Good Soak During Your Self-Care Sunday Time
What could be a better idea to unwind after a crazy busy week? Give yourself a good soak in a warm tub with your favorite essential oils. The ideas to make it a relaxing experience are limitless. All you need is a bit of creativity.
Hold on. You don’t have a tub? Don’t worry.
You can enjoy the same experience if you give yourself a luxurious shower. You may shower every day but on a Sunday, make it special. Go for a double shampoo and a hair mask. Scrub your body with your favorite exfoliator, or go for a DIY body scrub. Once you are done with the shower, apply your favorite citrus-scented moisturizer and enjoy the soft and supple feel of your skin.
#26. Hang Eucalyptus in Your Shower
Want to make your shower more relaxing? Hang eucalyptus in your shower. The calming scent of the plant relieves stress and helps you feel more rejuvenated.
#27. Light a Candle
Remember when you were a kid and all the simple, little things used to bring joy?
It still holds true. Simple things such as lighting a candle can bring peace and joy. Lit up your favorite scented candle and let the aroma and warmth comfort you.
#28. Resort to Humor
There is no better way to deal with life challenges than resorting to humor. You can watch a funny movie, or listen to a humorous podcast, or maybe enjoy your favorite standup comedian’s videos. In either case, keep it light and funny.
#29. Make Yourself a Cup of Your Favorite Hot Beverage and Enjoy
Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate or coffee or tea in your favorite mug, and enjoy your home and your family. Do nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just relax and unwind. Play board games with the kids, stare at the stars, listen to music. The dishes, the messy house, the laundry, nothing stays forever. But these memories you are creating with your loved ones do!
#30. Hang Out With Your Favorite People And Laugh Out Loud!
