Texas Homeschool Prom Tips for Your Kids
Join My Pretty Printables for Kids Community
Homeschooling and prom – you may be wondering how the two of them don’t necessarily go together. But with more children being homeschooled by their parents and private tutors, the popularity of homeschool prom is picking up. The Texas Homeschool Prom is the most awaited single event of the year where homeschooled teenagers get together for a night of dancing and fun.
Since homeschool prom doesn’t have the standard school budget and staff to organize the event, parents of the homeschooled kids become the prom committee. Parents have all hands on deck as soon as prom season approaches – they delegate all the logistics, operations, finances, and everyday tasks among themselves to host a night their children will never forget.
Hot Tips for Your Special Homeschool Prom
Here’s everything you need to know about sending your child to their first-ever homeschool prom.
The Texas Homeschool Prom
The Texas Christian Homeschool Prom happens once a year in northern Texas and homeschooled children from all surrounding areas get together for a day of celebration. Eligible high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 can attend prom as long as they have a valid registration and have purchased the tickets using the portal.
Parents of these homeschooled children must comply with the Parent Participation Requirement to ensure their child’s admission to prom. As for bringing plus-ones, the eligible student can purchase a guest voucher and bring alumni or guests to prom. Given that the date is at least 14 years old and no older than 21 years.
Dressing Up for Prom
Now let’s come to the fun bit – deciding how to dress up for the big night. A prom is always a formal event, and all attendees must show up in the appropriate clothing. According to the dress code, all the students are expected to show up in modest and formal clothing – but that doesn’t mean you can’t show off your style and add your touch to the look.
It’s always a good idea to plan and pick out the perfect shoes, accessory pieces, and choice of clothing. For boys, you can never go wrong with a classic tuxedo. And for girls, ball gowns and dresses which you can comfortably walk around and dance in will be the ideal choice.
If your child loves to dance, make sure the shoes they wear are comfortable. Dance floor injuries are extremely common so make sure your kids wear shoes that cover the top and bottom of their feet.
This important tip is for the ladies – you’re most likely spending hours walking, dancing, sitting, and doing other activities that might result in your dress shifting. Suppose you face any wardrobe malfunction; no need to worry at all since there will be volunteer moms who will be on standby to help you fix any mishaps.
When going prom clothes shopping, make sure the outfit you get fits like a glove. Anything too baggy or too tight will most likely become a nuisance throughout the night.
Dancing Etiquette: Tips and Hints
The number one rule of dance etiquette is to be mindful of your personal hygiene. The way you present yourself and take care of your hygiene during the dance party shows respect and consideration towards the other dancers in the room.
- Make sure you take a nice hot shower and brush your teeth before getting ready for prom.
- Try to avoid foods that can lead to smelly breath, like onions and garlic. If you’re worried about your breath during the event, mouthwash and breath mints will be available in the restrooms.
- Make sure you spray antiperspirant and cologne/perfume. If you sweat a lot, carrying a hand towel is a good idea so you can wipe off the excessive perspiration between songs and dances.
- For the comfort and safety of all guests and attendees, take sharp keys and objects out of your pockets and try not to wear any jewelry pieces that can be hazardous to you and others around you.
- Wearing stiletto heels can damage the dance floor as well as pierce through someone’s foot. It’s advised that the girls wear dancing shoes or block heels to avoid any damage and injuries.
- When asking someone to dance with you, always start with, “May I have this dance?” or you can be a little casual and ask, “Would you like to dance?”
- Traditionally, men ask women for an evening dance. But there’s no rule against women taking the first step and asking the guy if he would like to dance.
- If you want to ask somebody to dance with you, approach them confidently and go near them to signal your interest. When the intended partner makes eye contact with you, graciously ask them for a dance. If they smile and say yes, offer them your hand and escort them to the dance floor.
- In case you’re too tired and want to rest for a bit, if someone asks you to dance with them, politely decline. Make sure that you’re consistent – it isn’t polite if you turn one person down and go ahead and dance with someone else.
- At dances, people notice your dance moves before they get a chance to look at yourself. If your child wants to stand out at prom, tell them to practice a few dance steps or send them to dance class if they feel shy.
- When it’s time to leave, make sure you say goodbye to the people you met and danced with and thank them for their company. This will help others remember you the next time you see them. Or you never know; you could even become friends with people you met at prom.
