Fortunately, there are many things you can do to improve your memory and reduce stress. In addition to eating well and getting plenty of rest, keeping your brain stimulated will help in staying sharper throughout a hectic day. Talk to Your Friends
You might be surprised at how many people feel like society has raised expectations for mothers to superhuman levels. You’re allowed to feel overwhelmed and exhausted, and you don’t have to hide it! Talking with friends and family members who might be going through similar experiences can help you feel more empowered during those times. Even if your friends aren’t moms yet, they can still be excellent sounding boards. People who don’t have kids often have tons of questions about being a mom; you can use that curiosity as an outlet to vent!
There’s a reason why most doctors recommend exercise; it helps relieve stress and can also improve your memory and general health. Even if you’re not lucky enough to have a designated exercise time each day, you can still get some benefit from a few minutes of stretching, push-ups, or other simple exercises. You can also incorporate exercise into your daily routine by taking walks with your child or going for a jog with your partner. Putting exercise on your schedule can be a great way to make sure it gets done. If you have a child or multiple children at home, try finding a partner who can help you make sure that exercise gets prioritized! There are also many classes and activities (like yoga or dancing) that are perfect for parents and kids – it can be a great way to spend time with your kids while getting a healthy activity in.
Take Care of Your Body
Your body is the source of your brain. Eating well and getting plenty of rest are the best ways to support your mind, but they’re often the first things thrown out of the window when parenthood is thrown into the mix. That’s why it’s so important to find ways to take care of your body. Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of water, take a break to rest your mind every once in a while, and don’t forget to take care of your mental health. Eat healthy meals, and try to avoid spending too much time in front of the TV or computer screen. It’s easy to get sucked into the world of Hulu or Netflix for hours on end, but it’s not good for your health!
Meditation doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. You can start with 5-10 minute sessions every day. Find a quiet place where you can sit safely. You can also do it with your child! Meditation has many wonderful benefits, including improving your memory, reducing stress, and helping you to slow your mind down and focus. It can be a great way to recover after a long day at work or taking care of the kids. If you’re having trouble getting into the practice, try listening to guided meditations on YouTube, Spotify or podcasts. There are many guided meditation podcasts out there that are mom-friendly, so you can find one that works for you.
Learn Something New
Learning new things can be a great way to help your brain stay sharp. You don’t have to commit to a full degree program; there are plenty of online classes that are designed for people with busy schedules. Any subject or skill will do! You might decide to try learning a new language, taking a class in art or music, or even reading more books. Learning something new can be a great way to give your mind a break from the daily grind. It can also be a great thing to do with your children – you can all learn from each other!
Don’t Stress Over the Small Stuff
Finally, don’t worry about things that don’t matter. You’re a mom, and there are always things to be done. There will always be laundry to fold and dishes to clean. If you find yourself getting stressed out over such little things, take a deep breath and remember that they don’t matter. There are many things that you can’t control and don’t need to worry about. Don’t stress too much over when your child starts talking or reading, or if your child does or doesn’t like a particular food. Focus on enjoying the journey with your child, and let the small stuff go. These are just a few of the many ways that you can keep your mind sharper as a parent.
